I'm reading this as I procrastinate while sitting in a university library in France as my husband labors away over some archival documents in the next room. I'm along for the ride for his research this month but I didnt finish my master's thesis before jumping on the airplane. I technically have until September to finish it before I start my teaching years in my PhD program. It's an ethnogaphic piece and I have a lot written but it's kind of all over the place. I'll be traveling all next month too so it'll be hard to sit down and finish but I cant handle having to think about it everyday anymore. I don't know if it'll help but here goes...how about July 8 as a deadline?

PS. I got an urgent email from a student today about a year-old Incomplete which is about to change magically to an F. She is a really bright student, and I hope that she gets it together between work and school in the next few days. I know too that she is losing sleep over this, which really doesn't help, either.

But, for what it is worth, I never lose any sleep over Incompletes...

I gave a boatload of Incompletes this semester. They mean basically "see me now!" because something is missing in may grade book. Sometimes the student is a flake, and sometimes I have misplaced a paper. I don't really care which one it is, but basically is want the paper, NOW. Surprisingly, only about half of the students have responded since I handed in grades two weeks ago. Perhaps things will improve when the semester begins. I just don't get it what there is in that rotting pile of food in the kitchen that students sometimes don't get.

Great advice, but I was expecting time management skills for those of us TEACHING undergrads and working three additional jobs just to be able to pay our rent. LOL!
